With three million U.S. children exposed to shootings each year, the teenage dream is not what it used to be. That was the idea behind an Emmy-winning film written by Jim Connolly for Sandy Hook Promise, in which real school shooting survivors sung Katy Perry’s famous song. I came up with the line “Gun violence shouldn’t be part of growing up” to create the film’s surrounding campaign.
As part of the campaign, my partner Sam and I collected stories from various survivors featured in the film to make a supplementary social video. The following are survivors from different school shootings… all telling the same story.
We also created print, OOH, and social ads to share their stories.
And we even turned Sandy Hook Promise’s instagram grid into a yearbook page reminiscing about the times these teens will never forget.
